Police Discover Firearms in Intelligence-Driven Operation

A 50-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman will appear in court Thursday after police found unlicensed firearms and luxury vehicles during an intelligence-driven operation in Thohoyandou.

The Limpopo provincial investigation unit and the provincial tracking team arrested the suspects. Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said they initiated the operation after receiving a tip about a suspicious vehicle carrying unlicensed firearms and luxury vehicles.

Police Chase Leads to Arrest of Suspects

On Tuesday, police spotted the vehicle, which matched the description, on the R524 road heading toward Punda Maria. The driver allegedly noticed the police and sped off. Police immediately pursued the vehicle, and officers cornered the driver, forcing the vehicle to stop at Tshikhudini village.

Police searched the vehicle and found a 9mm pistol. The driver could not provide satisfactory explanations for the firearm. As a result, officers arrested the driver on the spot.

Further Investigation Uncovers More Firearms and Seizes Vehicles

Investigators then traced the driver’s home, where they found a woman inside. Police conducted a search of the house and uncovered eight more firearms. Officers arrested the woman and seized two luxury vehicles along with the unlicensed firearms as part of their investigation.

Legal Proceedings and Police Commendation

The arrested pair will face charges of possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition when they appear in the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.

Limpopo’s provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, praised the operation. She commended the investigating team for their “resilience and diligent work,” which led to the confiscation of unlicensed firearms and luxury vehicles.
