On March 29, police began investigating a murder after the body of an unidentified man was discovered near the Vaalbank River.
The body was found around 11:20 a.m. on a gravel road between Mmakometsane and Kameelrivier when passers-by spotted the victim.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the police spokesperson, the victim appeared to be between 30 and 40 years old.
He was found in a public area near the edge of the river. The victim was wearing grey jeans and a short-sleeved black t-shirt. Sadly, paramedics declared him dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigation points to gunshot wounds
While the exact circumstances remain unclear, preliminary investigations indicate that the victim may have been shot.
The police found spent gun cartridges at the scene, suggesting a shooting occurred nearby. At this stage, authorities have not identified a clear motive for the crime, and no arrests have been made yet.
Police urge public to assist in investigation
Despite the lack of arrests, the police remain committed to finding the responsible individuals.
“We are working hard to ensure that the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice,” said Ndubane.
He also urged the public to help by coming forward with any information that could aid the investigation.
Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to reach out, with the assurance that all tips will be handled confidentially. Additionally, callers have the option to remain anonymous.
The investigation continues, and authorities are calling for further public cooperation to solve the case and bring closure to the victim’s family.
