A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the deaths of a 32-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, whose bodies were discovered in a home in Wakkerstroom, Mpumalanga.
Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane said the victims were found on Sunday morning after the woman’s children attempted to enter her bedroom but found the door locked.
When they received no response, they peered through the window and saw their mother lying motionless in bed.
Alarmed, they alerted neighbors, who soon discovered that both the woman and the man were dead.
Police launch investigation
Emergency services and police responded to the scene, where they found the male victim with visible injuries, while the female victim showed no external wounds.
According to IOL, authorities arrested the suspect shortly after the discovery of the bodies. While the exact motive behind the murders remains unknown, police are actively investigating the case.
The acting provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, condemned the killings and urged community members to seek help when facing domestic issues instead of resorting to violence.
“We commend the police officers for their swift response in making an arrest. We remain committed to ensuring justice for the victims,” Mkhwanazi said.
Suspect faces murder charges
The suspect is expected to appear in the Volksrust Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. He will face two charges of murder.
