Woman Charged With Murder of Her Mother and Uncle in Mpumalanga

A 45-year-old woman from Mpumalanga appeared in the Siyabuswa Magistrate’s Court facing two murder charges.

According to reports, Flatty Skosana killed her uncle Josias Masanabo, who went missing in February 2025.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, stated that Nobanyazile Rosina Masanabo, 69, reported her brother missing. The murder occurred in one of her yard’s backrooms in the same month.

Investigation leads to arrest

“Siyabuswa detectives carried out an investigation where several individuals were interviewed,” Ndubane said.

“Evidence emerged during this probe and led to the arrest of Flatty Skosana, Nobanyazile’s daughter.” Meanwhile, investigators in KwaMhlanga discovered the uncle’s body buried in the bushes. “His body was retrieved and identified as Josias Masanabo.”

Motive and ongoing investigation

The police registered a murder case that included an additional charge of defeating the ends of justice. The police investigation continues, and the motive for the murders remains a significant aspect.

According to IOL, police are exploring all angles and have not ruled out further arrests. Skosana was arrested on April 9, and her case was postponed to April 22, 2025.

The acting provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the investigative team’s efforts.

He praised their relentless pursuit of the truth behind the deaths of the Masanabo siblings.
