Brutal Killing Shocks Mokgalwaneng Community
MOGWASE, NORTH WEST – The Mogwase Regional Court sentenced Bridgette Bojosi, 31, on Monday for the killing of Anna Mokowe, 65. The North West woman will spend the rest of her life in prison for the brutal murder. The victim lived in Mokgalwaneng, Disake, where the gruesome crime took place.
Details of the Murder
Police spokesperson Captain Mpho Manyoba said the court heard disturbing details about the crime, which occurred on March 24, 2023. According to evidence presented, Mokowe’s burnt body was discovered in a rubbish dump behind her home. A carpet covered her remains, and a stab wound to her neck indicated foul play.
Following an extensive investigation, authorities arrested Bojosi the next day. She faced charges of murder and undermining the administration of justice.
Court Sentencing and Police Reaction
Bojosi’s sentencing represents a significant victory in the ongoing fight against violent crime in the region. Moreover, the court ruled that she is unfit to possess a firearm. As a result, Major General Patrick Asaneng, acting provincial commissioner of North West, strongly praised the conviction.
“This sentence delivers a clear message that violent criminals will face justice. Furthermore, we deeply appreciate the diligent efforts of the investigating team, the prosecution, and everyone involved in securing this conviction,” Asaneng stated.
Rising Concerns Over Crimes Against the Elderly
Mokowe’s tragic murder has, once again, intensified concerns about the rising violence against elderly citizens in South Africa. Likewise, a shocking case recently emerged in Piketberg, Western Cape, where an 81-year-old woman lost her life after her 54-year-old son allegedly assaulted her. Consequently, the Rural and Farmworkers Development Organisation has voiced alarm over the increasing frequency of such incidents.
“These reports reveal that the elderly woman endured a brutal assault. Her son transported her to Piketberg Hospital, falsely claiming she had suffered a sugar attack. Fortunately, medical personnel quickly identified the assault and alerted authorities,” said Billy Claasen, executive director of the organization.
Shortly afterward, the 65-year-old victim succumbed to her injuries two days later at Tygerberg Hospital. In response, police swiftly charged her son with murder.
Given these alarming trends, authorities continue urging communities to remain vigilant. Additionally, they stress the importance of promptly reporting any signs of abuse or violence against vulnerable individuals.
