Carnarvon Regional Court Sentences Man to 16 Years for Murder

Byrone Maritz, 19, was given a 16-year prison sentence by a regional court for the murder of 40-year-old Henry Williams and the attack of Williams’ girlfriend.

Drinking session turns deadly in Carnarvon

According to Iol, the incident happened in Carnarvon on July 27, 2024, after a heated dispute descended into violence.

When a fight started, Maritz was drinking with Williams and his girlfriend, according to police spokeswoman Lt. Col. Sergio Kock. Maritz fatally stabbed Williams during the dispute and then attacked his girlfriend.

Due to the prompt action of the police, Maritz was arrested and put on trial.

Court finds Maritz guilty of murder and assault

Maritz was convicted of murder and assault with intent to cause great bodily harm by the court on February 18.

Police noted that Detective Constable Shanton Thompson’s investigation was crucial to obtaining the conviction.

Detective Constable Shanton Thompson’s thorough investigation, which resulted in the conviction and sentencing, is commended by SAPS management, Kock stated.
