Through a ruling at the Upington High Court division Chidi Emmanuel Okafor received a life sentence for fatally attacking a police officer located in Keimoes within the Northern Cape region.
During January 2020 Okafor launched an assault on both law enforcement personnel who were asleep at the time of the attack. A police officer expired from stab injuries which resulted in his colleague surviving serious wounds.
A brutal attack on law enforcement
Lieutenant Colonel Tebogo Thebe from the Northern Cape Hawks reported that Okafor received charges for housebreaking with murder intentions alongside murder and attempted murder charges.
Cop killer sentenced, the attacker made his escape from the location before authorities identified his location in Klerksdorp where he was captured. The judicial proceeding lasted months before Okafor received his conviction in August 2024 which led to his March 18, 2025 sentencing.
