Four suspects are in custody after Oudtshoorn police seized Mandrax tablets worth R97,000. This was after a high-speed chase on Tuesday night, which ended in a dramatic roadside drug bust.
The Arrests Following a Tense Chase
Police spokesperson Sgt. Christopher Spies confirmed the suspects’ arrest after a tense late-night patrol.
“On Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at around 10:45 p.m., Oudtshoorn police officers were conducting patrols along Johan Gelderblom Street. Then a vehicle with the suspects suddenly sped off,” Spies said.
Mandrax Tablets and Cash Seized from Suspects
As the chase escalated, officers observed the vehicle’s occupants throwing a parcel from the moving car.
“The vigilant officers caught up with the vehicle. Upon inspecting the parcel, discovered 1,943 Mandrax tablets and 27 half-tablets,” Spies said. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered an undisclosed sum of cash in the suspects’ possession.
Charges and Ongoing Efforts to Combat Drug Trade
The four suspects, aged 20, 34, 35, and 40, were arrested and charged with drug dealing. They are currently in police custody and will appear in Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court once formally charged.
“These arrests and confiscations are part of our ongoing efforts to eradicate the illicit drug trade and eliminate drugs from vulnerable communities,” Spies said, reaffirming the police’s commitment to tackling drug-related crimes in the region.
