Police from the Mitchells Plain Sub-District Crime Combating Unit succeeded in carrying out a data-driven operation in Milnerton on Sunday March 16, 2025 which resulted in a major drug shipment seizure.

During the targeted operation the police force entered a property in Milnerton against resisting residents at the specified address.  This made the Police seize large drug consignment. The team conducting the search located little drug amounts on two male suspects.

Further questioning the suspects made officers discover additional drug and cash amounts hiding inside a VW Up automobile at the second location. The Cape Town Magistrate’s Court will soon hear drug dealing charges against two Nigerian nationals that police seize large drug consignment from.

Western Cape police commissioner: military intervention not necessary

The Western Cape Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile denied the necessity of military intervention for crime control problems in gang-operated areas. The police chief Patekile asserted to the media the department maintained a firm hold on the situation while maintaining effective crime reduction across the province.

The Delft region is under consideration to receive a new police station since the locality recorded increasing criminal activities.

Lockdown operations

Patekile reported that the Cape Flats lockdown operations succeeded in stabilizing the areas of Bishop Lavis, Mitchells Plain and Elsies River after implementing seven to 14 days of crime control strategies. The community of Delft continues to be a pressing issue because its criminal incidents are rising.

Community members should avoid granting power to criminal gangs. These criminals are nothing more than common criminals so military interventions are unnecessary at this time.

As per Patekile “the province owns the resources needed and has the capability for fighting crime in the province.”
