Key Points

  • Police arrested a second suspect in the Wynberg court murder case.

  • The victim, Chintso, was shot in full view of witnesses.

  • More arrests are expected as investigators make progress in the case.

Police arrested a second suspect in connection with the murder at Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on April 8.

The 24-year-old man faced charges for the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Dingalomoyo Chintso. The incident occurred just before 11 a.m. on the fourth floor of the court building.

Chintso sustained gunshot wounds to the head while standing in the lobby area, and he died shortly after. The murder happened in full view of the court staff and other people in the building.

Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that detectives from the Western Cape Serious Violent Crimes unit are continuing their investigation.

The police are questioning several individuals, making steady progress. Potelwa also mentioned that further arrests are likely as the investigation unfolds.

Police uncover details of the attack

According to an IOL report, a source revealed that Chintso had connections to the Junky Funky Kidz (JFK) gang in Vrygrond near Muizenberg.

Authorities are considering whether gang activity played a role in the murder. Investigators also found that the victim had ties to various individuals who might be linked to the attack.

Earlier, on April 14, police arrested Shireen Matthews, a 35-year-old woman from Strandfontein. Matthews faces charges of orchestrating the murder.

Police believe she was involved in planning the attack, and she made her first court appearance on April 14.

Additional arrests expected in the case

On April 22, Abubaker Adams, another individual, appeared in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. He faces charges related to the case, and his case was postponed to allow him to join Matthews for the next court hearing.

Eric Ntabazalila, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), confirmed Adams’ court appearance. He added that more charges may be filed in the coming days.
